Orchard Road

September 27, 2005

This was for last Friday. As he was finally feeling less lethargic, we decided to bring him out to have his favourite Sakae Sushi. He did eat his noodle and made quite a mess of the whole place. He was however still having nasal congestion and staying too long in the air con room made him feel even more uncomfortable. So we brought him out to the open area and found a seat right next to the busy Orchard Road. He was contented just playing around the stone chair with Daddy, making his way up and down the steps. Hui and Mum happened to be around the area and they dropped by to say hi…we didn’t stay long as both me and Malcolm were tired

Yeye and Nainai

September 26, 2005

Sunday night was spent as usual, he went back grandparents’ house for dinner. Would be quite some time again before he would come here for dinner. He always enjoy himself at his grandparents’ home cos everyone gave him 100% attention. yeye (grandpa) and nainai (grandma) were always very attentive towards him. Every single aaahhh or ooohhh meant something to them and they would try to find out what he was trying to say. He would most of the time sit very obediently in his portable high chair with us at the dinner table. Now I understand what full attention can do to a kid, even as young as 1 year old plus. Sometime what they need is for us to pay more attention to them, play with them and they will be contented and behave very well. Oh by the way, is heaven to him here cos he could watch ?? cooks!

Clark Quay

September 26, 2005

After the food tasting, we decided to take a walk along Singapore River. Waoh, so much had changed to this part of Singapore River. It was colourful, vibrant and happening! He was a bit grumpy initially, and we thought he was tired. However, near the end of our walk, we came to this bridge with a very broad walkway and he was suddenly very energetic and was running around happily playing. I think he just loves to be free !

Recovery

September 24, 2005

The past 2 night he did not take any medication before going to sleep, we also did not turn on the air con as the dry air will cause his blocked nose to be worsened. He was finally recovering. A very clear sign was when he woke up from his usual nap in the afternoon or in the morning, he would get off the bed himself and made his way to the living room to look for me. When he was very sick, he would just lie on the bed and cried.

This morning he almost finished a piece of plain bread and finished more than 1/2 the cup of milo that I made him. He also ate 3 servings of the poriddge last night, he must be feeling better but unfortunately, the flu virus had came to me and I was feeling the discomfort that he was feeling… and now I understand why he was so grumpy.

Singapore River

September 22, 2005

We decided to bring him out for a ride hoping that he will fall asleep in the car. We were wronged, he refused to sit in his car seat and end up had to carry him. We decided to find some place nice to have tea since we did not have proper lunch. We decided to go to this cafeteria along the Singapore River which is quite scenic, quiet and ample space for him to run around. He was however too tired to walk today and was happy to just sit on his pram. Hoping to put him to sleep we decided to push him around before settling down for some coffee. Though it was early afternoon, the sun was not very hot and it was quite a pleasant walk along the river. We came to a bridge and took some pics. He was a bit fascinated to see the boats moving in the river but was too tired to pose and smile to the camera.

Mummy’s Flip Flop

September 22, 2005

this was for yesterday….Wednesday…he woked up grumpy… though he had much better sleep but I guessed he was recovering. We continued to give him the anti histamine cos that will make him drowsy so that he could get the sleep he needed. Since he was given the medication, he vomitted 2 times….and out came his milo drink and maybe phlem as well. He got better during the day but still refuse to sleep though can see that he was very tired. He sneaked out the back door with Daddy while Daddy was trying to hang up some bedsheet to dry. He took his favourite mop and started cleaning the floor ! He happily tried on my flip flop and could actually walked a few steps in them !

Visit to Doctor

September 22, 2005

We brought him to the doc on Tuesday cos he was feverish again in the morning, concern that his cough will develop into something more serious, we decide to bring him to the doc. As usual, he did not like to be there esp when the doc checked him with a stethoscope for wheezing sound in his breathing and also tried to make him open his mouth so that he can check his throat. Doc conclude that he probably had catch a flu virus after the MMR vaccine as his body was already weakened then and it was much easier for any virus to attack. The worse thing was due to his nasal congestion and cough, he was not able to get the rest that he needed to recover.

Upon reaching home, we fed him the anti histamine that was prescribed by the doc, as usual we need 2 persons to feed him the medicine. 1 to hold him down, the other to force feed him with a spoon. His cough and runny nose stopped almost immediately after the medicine was taken and finally he could have a restful sleep. We did the same for him at night. Hopefully he gets better soon.

I Love U

September 19, 2005

Malcolm is finally learning how to speak a few words. Simple single syllabus words like 1, a, b even Mandarin ‘love u - wo ai ni’. He really brought big smiles to grandma and granddad when he said that to them.

Had been busy taking care of Malcolm and packing our things to be shipped out this week. Malcolm’s fever is getting better but he is having very bad cough since Sunday. The cough is accompanied with runny nose. The MMR vaccine was really potent, as he has never fell this sick before. Now I start to wonder whether it is really safe to follow diligently all the immunisation jab. With each jab, we are actually introducing bacteria and viruses into the young body…what if it is too much for the kid to handle and develop into something more serious. I read that some of the symtoms for measles include fever, nasal congestion, red eyes and coughing, develop three to five days before the rash. So far he already had most of them except red eye and rash. Thinking whether should bring him to the doc tomorrow as I am afraid that the cough will develop into something worse…like bronchitis or pneumonia. Pray that he gets better tomorrow.

Ice Cream … Yum Yum !

September 16, 2005

He woke up with a fever today. He was running a temp in the middle of last night at around 1.30 am. His temp was quite high at around 38++ degree celsius. It was probably due to the MMR vaccination which he had about a week ago. He refused to take his paracetamol even when I had it mixed in his Milo drink.
After his lunch I decided to have an ice cream cone. He was curious about what I was eating and after his first lick he seemed to like it and kept coming back for more. Thought the cooliing ice cream could help cool him down and help to bring down his temp.
After dinner, Daddy and me forced fed him some paracetamol. He is now sweating a bit and that helped to bring down his temp. Hopefully he will be well again tomorrow.

Hat Trying

September 16, 2005

After Bugis we proceeded to Takashimaya to meet up with my sis and bro. At our favourite shope Hush Hush we let him tried some hats which was on sales. He sure looked very cute in the hats though he really wasn’t a hat fan! He didn’t like having the hat on him. Still I bought him a denim one cos I just couldn’t resist the sale!

Outing at Bugis Junction

September 16, 2005

Arranged to meet up with Lee Tuan and her baby at Bugis on Wednesday. Think probably the last time we going to see them before we leave Spore. Baby Joel looks lovely in her yellow and blue outfit and as usual very chubby and very cute. First time saw Lee Tuan using the baby carrier for her. Must be very heavy cos this chubby little girl weighed about 8.8 kg at around 6 months! Malcolm wasn’t very cooperative that day either. He refused to sit in his pram or walked on his own most of the time. So ended up I had to carry him most of the time. So you see 2 poor mama doing weight training most of the time. I still having muscle ache on my biceps today!

I was glad that I took some photos at the fountain just outside Bugis Seiyu while the 2 babies were still awake and not grumpy. The sun was quite scorching and though the photos did not turn out very well, we already put in great effort.

We had lunch at a Japanese Noodle house. Malcom and Joel sat in their baby chair. I fed Malcolm his noodle before I had mine. Lee Tuan was thoughtful enough to bring some toys to keep them entertained. Half way through the meal, Joel began to get grumpy. I carried her to walked around thinking that I could soothed her. Waoh! I was wronged. She cried loud! Never knew this little thing got such powerful lungs! She was angry and hungry so Lee Tuan had to bring her to the baby’s room to nurse her. Now I know what it was like when Lee Tuan said nobody could handle Joel after 7 pm, except Lee Tuan herself :)

Hip Hop star

September 13, 2005

Mum and Ping bought some new clothes for him. They got some big shirts and pants for him hoping that he could wear them when he gets older. Decided to try out the new clothes for him. After putting on the shirt for him, he was eager to try out the pants as well! Consider quite vain for a small kid like this. Though the clothes are big, but he could still wear them. He actually looked quite cool in his new outfit. I turned on the music and he sure looked like a Hip Hop star dancing in those outfits. Very cute!

Tim Sum Lunch

September 13, 2005

Today we decided to give my family a treat at this restaurant at suntec city that have Tim Sum. We thought that it would be nice to do so before we leave Singapore. He was hungry. We were there early. Mum, Pa and Jie were not there yet. So we ordered a Ee Fu Noodle. He was famished and ate all the noodle we put in his bowl. Very soon he had enough and it was our turn to enjoy the food. He got a bit restless and was happy to get off his seat and running around the restaurant’s carpetted floor. He was happy to play on the small stage in the restaurant and even danced for a while when we played some music for him through the handphone.

Monkey Business

September 13, 2005

Went to Bukit Timah Hill again on Sunday. This time with Ping and Eddy. Malcolm wasn’t so happy to walk up the hill that morning. Maybe becos he did not have a good breakfast and also he woke up quite early and was a bit tired. So end up we had to carry him to the top all the way. I tried walking up and down the hill barefooted this time and it was quite painful for the feet. So I guess next time will put on his shoes for him.

He did have fun running around on the green green grass on top the hill and upon reaching the foot of the hill, there were lotsa monkeys. This was the 1st time that he saw so many monkeys at such a close distance. Think it was worth the visit.
