It was a Friday morning and after talking to Michelle over the phone…I decided that I shan’t delay any longer and should bring him for his MMR vaccination which was due when he was 15 months. He is 16 months now coming to 17 months. The chickenpox vaccine is an optional one.
We took a short bus ride to the doc’s clinic. I thought he might enjoy this as he rarely has chance to take a bus. It was quite a pleasant journey as the sun was not very bright yet. Didn’t manage to capture the look on his face when we got on the bus and I put him on the seat beside me. The new camera is too bulky to carry. The bus ride was something very new to him and his face look puzzled and fearful as he is always weary about new things. It was just 2 stops away and very soon we need to get off the bus.
In the doc’s clinic, he entertained himself with some old toys in the clinic. He struggled and clinged on to me when the nurse tried to lay him down so that she can measured his height. His height was 81 cm He was ok sitting on the weighing machine, he weighed 11.44 kg but the nurse failed to take his temperature with the ear thermometer. I took over the job took quite a while to assured him that everything will be ok.
He was grumpy and knowing that he was hungry, I gave him some biscuits and he almost finished the whole pack. Once inside the doc’s room, he entertained himself with more toys. However even with all the wonderful toys, he was still very wary of the doc in the room as it was a new face. He would keep turning his head around to see what the doc was doing and immediately smelt something fishy when the doc came over where we were sitting and wanted me to carry him to sit on my lap. He started struggling and the doc had to ask the nurse to come in to help hold him down as he needed 2 jabs, one on each side of his thigh. It was painful but everything was over quite fast. He was crying badly and even when I tried to breastfeed him, he refused which he seldom does so. All he wanted was to leave the room. He waved vigourously to the doc knowing that would mean we could leave the place. He even waved enthusiastically to the nurse and gave flying kiss which he rarely did as he knew that we will leave after he had done so.
As consolation, I brought him to the pet shop next door and very soon he had forgotten about the pain and was having fun watching the dogs and hamsters. He sure is my brave boy…
