My husband surprised us with THIS for dinner over the weekend.
YES it is CHILI CRAB!!!
oooh I miss chili crab from back home and I NEVER NEVER expected this!
Not when I don’t have my Prima Deli premix with me!
And to have these served in our cozy nest, on a cold rainy night, with French baguette.
It was Heaven !
It was Sweeet …
and Hot and Spicy !
Is there something sexy about a man who cooks ? Or is it just me ??
For those who are as desperate as us, here’s where my sexy man got his inspiration.
(Note : the tricky part is not the cooking but the cleaning of the crab!)
Here’s How to clean the crab
Recipe for Chili Crab (moderated for ~ 2kg of live crabs)
Ingredients :
live crabs (~2.0 kg)
4 tsp vegetable oil
3 tsp garlic, finely minced
2 tsp ginger, finely grated
1 egg
salt and pepper
Chlli Sauce – Combine
4 – 5 tsp chilli paste (we used their sambal olek which is the only decent chili paste that we can find overseas, both in the States and Paris)
2 tbsp cup tomato ketchup
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp lemon juice or rice vinegar
1 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp cornstarch
1 cup water
Method :
- In a bowl combine chili sauce ingredients , mix well
- Heat vegetable oil in a hot work, add garlic, ginger and chili paste
- Add combined chili sauce ingredients to wok
- Bring sauce to a boil, add salt and pepper to taste
- Toss in crabs, stir-fry to coat with the sauce
- Cover and cook crabs over med-high heat until turn red in colour
- Lift cover from time to time to give it a good stir, add water if necessary
- When crabs are fully cooked, remove them from wok
- Break an egg into the sauce, stirring gently
- Mix in the crabs
- Serve with French baguette to dip into the yummy sauce
I love to eat chilli crabs too! But too bad, my hubby cannot take seafood as he has allergy and so I rarely eat it.
