Nostalgia On Instagram

So I was torn between spending National Day with fellow countrymen or to go on a retreat for the long weekend

The husband was called in for work last minute post National Day
And I was spared from making the tough choice

We got to celebrate National Day here and then spent the rest of the weekend with their kids’ great grandfather

A mere 2 hours drive across the causeway
and we were transported back to the 60s or 70s

The kids had so much fun they didn’t want to come home
I took tons of pictures with my iphone
and fell in love with instagram

Here’s a glimpse of this gem
a place more than half a century old

the place where my mum and her 10 other siblings were born
the place where they spent their carefree childhood
the kind childhood that most kids could only dream about these days

Every corner of the house tells a story
and I wish that this place will remain so for as long as the world allows

  1. *high five* We too took an hour drive into Malaysia across the causeway during the long school break, thanks to our National Day. Every photo posted here reminded me of my granny’s house, where I visited her every Chinese New Year when I was still a kid.

just saw your post on your Desaru trip…looks like a nice getaway…with a little adventure…perhaps I should spend more time exploring our neighbouring country…haven’t been to Desaru !

  2. Beautiful shots, what a nostalgic visit this is and always good to reconnect with our roots.

    • thanks Angeline…u nailed it … reconnecting with our roots …I am beginning to understand why my grandfather travelled all the way to china to meet up with relatives whom he had never met before …

  3. Lovely photos, so much nostalgia and tranquility felt from these shots. Your kids are blessed to be able to experience how life is living in a kampong.

    • yes Rachel, they are indeed very lucky…I hope the trip will also make them realised how much they have in terms of toys, clothes and books…things that most kids take for granted these days…
